A Glorious winter’s day welcomed a large buying crowd at this year’s 25th Annual Lotus Hereford Bull Sale, held on property ‘Old Farm’ Pinkett, Thursday 28th July. Bidding reached a top of $16,000, with bulls going to NSW, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. All 38 bulls on offer sold to achieve an outstanding average of $7223, this being a record for the stud. Bidding stayed strong from the opening lot with 19 bulls selling for $7000 or more. The balance of the bulls sold between $4000 - $6500, so all budgets were well catered for. Top price bull was purchased by Celia Mackay on behalf of Yonga P/ltd, Wandoan Qld. First time purchasers at Lotus, the bull is destined for their newly purchased property, ‘Echo’ Deepwater. Lotus K0016, a son of Glenwarrah C021, weighed in at 896kg, and was in the top 10% or better for all EBV growth traits. Celia purchased 2 bulls in total averaging $11,500. Stud interest was evident in the Lotus Bulls with a total of 8 studs registered from across the 3 eastern states, but it was the commercial buyers who prevailed. One of which was repeat and volume buyer on the day Avilem p/ltd, the Jefferies family ‘Isla’ Tenterfield, purchasing 4 bulls to an average of $7125. The 2nd top price bull was purchased by David Phelan, Yarram Victoria for $13,000. A son of Karoonda Northerly and out of a Talbalba Valuer female, Lotus Kinchela K31 weighed 940kg and had an EMA of 140cm. Bidders on the day ranged from 4 states and were made up of repeat buyers along with a many 1st time visitors to the stud. 60% of the bulls went to repeat clients of the Lotus stud with 8 bulls heading out of NSW. A pre-sale inspection lured 1ST time vendors Granite Flat Pastoral, Mitta Mitta Victoria, to invest in some Lotus genetics. Purchasing through Agents Corcoran & Parker Wodonga, Granite Flats purchased 2 bulls to a top of $9,000. Long-time supporter of the stud Steven Newberry liked what he saw and purchased 2 bulls averaging $10,000 along with another purchase for the estate of AA & EJ Newberry for $6,000. The Holliss family thank successful purchasers, underbidders and all who attended their 25th sale.
